love autumn

Autumn. I LOVE Autumn. I actually this it might be my favourite time of the year. I am such a cold bunny, I love being cold, cold things, cold holidays. I swear I have cold blood. Although, fun fact, I don’t really like ice cream. But there are literally a million things that rock about this time of year and here are some of the best things about Autumn:

Golden leaves. They are beautiful, they make awesome, crunchy sounds when you step on them and they come in SO handy for crafty ideas of things to do with the kids. I have so many autumn leaf paintings stuck to my fridge at the moment (and a few in the bin – bad mum alert!)

Snuggling under a blanket. Because come on, who doesn’t LOVE putting on a fire, grabbing a super whipped creamy, marshmallowy mug of hot chocolate and getting so far under your blanket it touches your chin and covers your toes?!

Halloween. I used to love dressing up for Halloween, going out with my friends to a party and channelling my inner ‘slut’, you know I’m right. ‘Halloween is the one day a year when a girl can dress up like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it’. You said it, Cady. Now, I dress my kids up, take them trick or treating and if I’m honest, I enjoy it so much more. Seeing their little faces when they are all dressed up, filling their bags full of sweets, racing around our village in search of the next Halloween friendly house, it’s just amazing. (Until they eat said bag of sweets, turn into real-life monsters and I wish I was back in my late teens with no-one having a completely irrational breakdown because they can’t have 2 shoes on one foot or that they don’t want the pink toy to be pink or they don’t want to wait more that precisily 0.02 seconds for their dinner to be ready.)

Food. Yes, I love food all year round, but food in Autumn? THE. BEST. Toffee apples, pumpkin, soups, calzone….and apparently, salted caramel is IN SEASON. Would be rude not to eat it all the time, right?

The mother of all lattes. Yes you know the one iI’m talking about. Pumpkin Spiced Latte. Oh you heavenly cup of deliciousness, you are deffo not over 400 calories per drink. Nope. Nope. Nope. But even if it is..

SWIMWEAR SEASON IS OVER! Yes yes yes yes yes! No more breathing in, no more failed attempts to get fit or lose weight as you know real, live people will be seeing you in material smaller than your undercrackers. Hello chunky knits, lots of layers and ALL the breathing out.

You can spend all day under your duvet watching films and not even feel bad about it because it’s too cold to go outside anyway. No, you did that all summer anyway.

Candles. Candles everywhere. Fancy making a saving on your leccy bills? Candles. Or, maybe, more importantly. Scented candles. My FAVE is the apple & cinnamon spiced ones, it smells like Autumn, Christmas and happiness all in one fail swoop.

All the warm drinks. Mulled wine, mulled cider, mull me anything, please. I think warm drinks are THE BEST. I have the new limited edition Winter Spiced Ribena at the moment, it is full of mulled spices and just tastes incredible. Seriously, it is the cosiest, yummiest drink for this time of year.

One of my favourite days is Bonfire Night. There is nothing I love more than donning my warmest coat, hat, scarfs and gloves and watching the hugh fire crackle, watching the beautiful fireworks being set off and stuffing my face with hot dogs, candy floss. Whilst, obviously, warming my hands with a mulled wine/cider/Ribena/any form of mulled drink. I can’t actually think of anything I would rather do in an evening.

What are some of you favourite things about Autumn?
